If gambling gives you a high, there could be a substitute that could give you the same feeling. Have you not seen how people chew chewing gums when they want to eat sweets? It’s a substitute. Initially it might feel unsatisfying, but you get the same results.

Substitute therapy is a new approach to treating addictive behaviors. Patients are given substitutes of certain behaviors, that gives them same result, but with absolutely no or miniscule side effects. Like the nicotine tables for smoke-addicts.

Gambling brings along with it a certain package of feelings. Feelings of thrill, fantasy, elation, depression, and suspense. People addicted to these feelings go after it. They pursue it unknowing of the fact that more than the game, they are addicted to the feelings associated with it.

Sports such as mountain biking give the same sense of suspense, thrill, and achievement that gambling does. You can try go-karting, and rock-climbing as well. All these sport are exhilarating, and emotionally-draining. They peel you of your emotional energy. You will need more emotional power then physical power to overcome the odds.

Some people take gambling because it is masculine. To be filled with feelings of masculinity, you can take up sport like boxing and rugby. You will be charged with masculine energy everyday. There will be no doubt in your mind on your prowess and ability.

If gambling is your hobby, substitute it with your next best hobby. For example, if you are good at painting, why not spend your free time painting, and donating the proceeds of the sales to underprivileged children? There is no greater high than this.
